Mays Landing, NJ — A South Jersey police officer is facing serious felony charges after prosecutors say he secretly recorded a nude female detainee inside a holding cell and shared the videos with others. Ryan Bonanni, 25, of Egg Harbor Township, was indicted by an Atlantic County grand jury on charges including official misconduct and invasion of privacy.
The indictment stems from an incident on July 6, 2025, inside the Ventnor Police Department, where authorities say the recordings were made without the victim’s knowledge.
Secret recordings inside holding cell
According to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, Bonanni used his personal cell phone to take multiple videos of a female prisoner while she was nude and secured in a holding cell following her arrest.
Investigators say the recordings were made without the knowledge of other officers involved in the arrest.
The alleged conduct came to light days later, prompting an investigation by the prosecutor’s Professional Standards and Accountability Unit alongside the Ventnor Police Department.
Videos allegedly shared with officers and civilians
Prosecutors allege Bonanni distributed the recordings via Snapchat to several fellow officers as well as civilian friends and family members.
The charges filed against him include second-degree official misconduct, third-degree invasion of privacy, and third-degree criminal computer activity.
If convicted on the most serious charge, Bonanni could face up to 10 years in New Jersey state prison.
