School Bus Aide Accused of Sexually Assaulting Two Teens in Roselle, Held in Essex County Jail

Roselle, NJ — A 69-year-old school bus aide is accused of sexually assaulting two minors he transported in Union County, targeting vulnerable students including one who is non-verbal, according to prosecutors. Federico Nicasio Genao, of Paterson, now faces multiple felony charges and remains jailed following his arrest earlier this month.

The allegations stem from a report made to Roselle police on Monday, April 7, prompting an investigation that led to Genao’s arrest just days later.

Genao has been charged with two counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child by sexual contact and two counts of third-degree aggravated criminal sexual contact, according to Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel.

Authorities say the suspect worked as a school bus aide and appeared to target teenage victims with autism who rode on his bus. One of the victims is non-verbal, adding to concerns about their vulnerability and ability to report abuse.

The investigation involved the Roselle Police Department Detective Bureau and the Union County Prosecutor’s Office.

Prosecutor Daniel called the case deeply troubling, stating: “The allegations in this case represent a profound betrayal of trust and a direct threat to the safety of our most vulnerable residents. While we have secured an arrest, our investigation remains very much active as we work to ensure that every individual impacted by these actions is heard and supported.”
