Gunfire rampage leads to gruesome killing of family pet in Pennsylvania town

New Alexandria, PA — A Westmoreland County man is behind bars after state police say a burst of gunfire in a neighborhood led to the killing and burning of a family’s pet cat.

Tyler Rost-Maiolie, 27, has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty, neglect of animals, cruelty to animals, and recklessly endangering another person following the incident along Guthrie Road.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, a neighbor reported seeing Rost-Maiolie standing in the street firing a gun into the air for approximately 30 minutes before troopers arrived on scene.

During their response, troopers said they learned Rost-Maiolie had tortured and killed a family pet cat. Investigators later located the animal’s burned remains in a nearby fire pit.

Rost-Maiolie was taken into custody and arraigned, then remanded to the Westmoreland County Prison on $50,000 bail.

Authorities have not released additional details about what led up to the incident. The case remains under investigation.

All charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
