Newark, NJ – A daytime package theft captured on surveillance video has prompted Newark officials to ask for the public’s help identifying a suspect who targeted a residential property earlier this week. The incident occurred in the city’s South Ward and involved merchandise valued at $200, according to authorities.

The theft happened Monday morning in the 400 block of South 15th Street, where a suspect was recorded removing a delivered package from a front porch before fleeing the area. Officials say the suspect has not yet been identified.

“Police Seek Help Identifying Package Theft Suspect,” said Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr. “At approximately 10:34 a.m., the suspect was captured on surveillance video taking the package from a home in the 400 block of South 15th Street.”

Authorities say the suspect acted quickly, approaching the residence and leaving with the package within moments. The stolen item contained merchandise estimated at $200.

“Director Miranda urges anyone with information on the suspect’s identity to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line,” the department said in its release.

Officials emphasized the importance of community assistance in identifying suspects involved in property crimes. The department continues to review surveillance footage and is asking residents in the area to check any additional camera recordings that may assist in the investigation.

No arrests have been announced as of Monday.
