LEONIA, N.J. — Leonia’s Memorial Day parade will move forward Monday despite rainy weather, though officials shifted the post-parade ceremony indoors after early morning conditions prevented setup at Wood Park.
The Leonia Police Department announced Monday morning that organizers still expect the parade to begin as scheduled after weather forecasts showed rain ending around 11 a.m. Officials said no lightning or thunder was expected during the event window.
Because of wet conditions earlier in the day, organizers said they could not safely install the stage, banner displays, bunting, and audio equipment planned for Wood Park. Instead, Memorial Day ceremonies will now take place indoors at American Legion Post 1, located at 399 Broad Avenue.
Parade Schedule Remains Unchanged
According to the Leonia Police Department, participants will begin lining up at 11 a.m. at Leonia Middle School before the parade steps off at 11:30 a.m.
The Memorial Day ceremony at Post 1 is scheduled to begin at noon.
Officials said the adjusted plans allow the borough to continue honoring fallen U.S. service members while avoiding weather-related equipment and safety concerns tied to the outdoor ceremony setup.
