A violent domestic dispute escalated into serious criminal charges after police say a teenager attacked his pregnant girlfriend inside a Houston County home.
WARNER ROBINS, GA – An 18-year-old man is being held without bond after police say a confrontation with his pregnant girlfriend turned into a series of violent assaults earlier this month. Lucas Hayden faces charges of aggravated assault, kidnapping of an adult, and criminal damage to property following the April 11 incident, according to Houston County Sheriff’s Office records.
Officers were dispatched around 12:15 p.m. to a residence in Warner Robins after reports of a fight between Hayden and 18-year-old Ja’Dyia Smith. Investigators say the dispute began when Hayden allegedly took Smith’s phone, prompting her to attempt to strike him with her vehicle.
A witness identified as Smith’s sister told officers the woman tried to run Hayden over multiple times as he attempted to leave the scene. Police said Hayden then pulled Smith from the vehicle, took her keys, and entered the home, temporarily locking her out before allowing her back inside.
Alleged assault inside the home
According to the arrest report, the confrontation resumed inside the residence and escalated in the kitchen before moving into a bedroom. Police allege Hayden dragged Smith into the room and kicked her in the stomach while she was five months pregnant.
“I need to kill the baby,” Hayden allegedly said during the assault.
Investigators also say Hayden used Smith’s leggings and his arm to choke her during the attack.
Arrests and custody status
Both Hayden and Smith were arrested on April 20, just over a week after the incident, and initially faced aggravated assault charges. Authorities have not detailed the circumstances leading to Smith’s arrest.
Hayden remains in custody at the Houston County Detention Center without bond. Smith has since been released, according to jail records.
