Doral family of four found stabbed to death in suspected murder-suicide

A welfare check call led deputies to a gated home where two parents and their young daughters were found dead.

DORAL, FL – A well-known local realtor and her two young daughters were found dead alongside the children’s father inside a gated Doral home Tuesday night, in what investigators are now treating as a suspected murder-suicide. The deaths of 46-year-old Melanie Hyer, 42-year-old Ryan Whiten, and their daughters, 11-year-old Savannah and 8-year-old Sienna, have shaken the South Florida community.

Deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office responded to a welfare check request placed by a friend and discovered all four victims inside the residence. According to local reporting by WTVJ, each of the victims had suffered fatal stab wounds. Authorities confirmed Wednesday that the case is being investigated as a murder-suicide, though they have not publicly identified who carried out the killings.

Family dynamics and custody tensions emerge

WTVJ reported that Hyer and Whiten were co-parenting their daughters following the end of their relationship. Both had gone on to marry and later divorce other partners. While they did not live together, Whiten’s last known address was within the same gated community where Hyer lived and where the bodies were found.

Whiten’s ex-wife, who divorced him in 2024 and spoke to WSVN without being identified, described a strained relationship between the former couple. She said ongoing custody disputes had created tension, adding that Whiten had expressed concern Hyer might try to take the children away from him.

Both Hyer and Whiten were active in the real estate industry, and Hyer had appeared in local television segments. WTVJ investigative journalist Willard Shepard, who knew Hyer personally, said there was “no sign or any indication of something like this.”

Community reaction and ongoing investigation

Doral Mayor Christy Fraga, who also knew Hyer, described the incident as an “unimaginable tragedy” that took “the lives of a mother and her two young daughters” in a social media post.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Homicide Bureau continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths and is awaiting findings from the medical examiner. Authorities have not released further details about the sequence of events or a possible motive.
