Cumberland police arrest three, including man charged in April 10 sex assault case

Suspects face charges ranging from rape to failure to appear after Friday warrants

CUMBERLAND, MD – Three men were taken into custody Friday by Cumberland Police following separate warrants, including one tied to a reported sexual assault that investigators say was supported by witness accounts and surveillance footage. The arrests stem from incidents reported earlier this month and court-related violations, with two of the suspects ordered held without bond.

Police said Shawn Allen Spears, 40, of Cumberland, was arrested after a warrant was issued in connection with an assault reported on April 10. The victim told officers that Spears touched them inappropriately and forced himself on them, according to the department. Investigators said the account was corroborated through witness statements and video evidence.

Sex assault investigation leads to arrest without bond

Spears was charged with second-degree rape without consent and fourth-degree sex offense involving sexual contact. After his arrest, he was transported to Central Booking and later appeared before a District Court Commissioner, who ordered him held without bond at the Allegany Detention Center.

In a separate case, officers served a bench warrant on Jamar Cordelle Peck, 28, also of Cumberland, after he failed to appear in court Friday on an original trespassing charge. Police said Peck was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking before being presented to a District Court Commissioner, who set bond at $1,500.

Court violations result in additional arrest

A third arrest involved Jeremy Allen Yetter, 40, of Cumberland, who police said failed to comply with the conditions of his pre-trial release issued March 30. Officers served a bench warrant on Yetter Friday and took him into custody. He was transported to Central Booking and later remanded without bond to the Allegany Detention Center following his appearance before a District Court Commissioner.

All three cases remain pending in District Court.
