Apex Man Accused of Stealing Motorcycle Faces New Charges After False Ambulance Call, Deputies Say

Apex, NC — A 23-year-old man accused of stealing a motorcycle in coastal North Carolina now faces a second wave of charges after deputies say he resisted arrest, gave false information, and made a bogus ambulance call during a separate incident days later. Keith Andrew Franek, of Apex, was first charged April 22 in New Hanover County, then arrested again May 1 in Wake County, where authorities added eight more charges.

Investigators allege Franek stole a 2006 Yamaha R1 motorcycle valued at $5,000 along with a $400 helmet, bringing the total value of the reported theft to $5,400.

Arrest escalates into multiple charges

When Wake County deputies arrested Franek on May 1, court documents say the situation quickly escalated. Authorities allege he refused to get into a patrol vehicle and had to be physically placed inside.

Deputies also say Franek provided false identifying information during the encounter and made a call requesting an ambulance for a claimed medical emergency—only to appear normal moments later.

Allegations involve juveniles and alcohol

Franek now faces a total of eight additional charges in Wake County, including two counts of resisting a public officer, one count of making a false ambulance request, four counts of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, and an open container violation.

According to court records, deputies found Franek inside a vehicle with four juveniles, ages 15 and 16, where open alcoholic beverages—including a Michelob Ultra—were allegedly present.
