Oyster Bay, NY – On Sunday, May 12, a 34-year-old man was walking his service dog near the water when the dog went for a swim just before 8:30 PM. During the swim, the dog became trapped under a dock and began to struggle.
The man contacted his girlfriend, who used the dog’s GPS collar to locate them and called the police. While authorities were en route, the man entered the water to rescue the dog. He successfully freed the dog but became stuck himself.
An officer arriving at the scene provided the man with a life preserver, and the Oyster Bay Fire Department used a rescue line to pull him from the water. Both the man and his dog were safely rescued.
