ATLANTIC COUNTY, NJ—A 15-year-old girl is currently in critical condition at Cooper Hospital following a severe bicycle accident in Atlantic County. The incident occurred on Wednesday, May 8, around 4:50 p.m., when she fell off her bicycle into the path of an oncoming tow truck.
Egg Harbor Police Chief Frederick Spano reported that the accident took place on Ocean Heights Avenue as the girl was riding north on the shoulder, the same direction as the 2021 Ford tow truck. She lost her balance and fell underneath the rear tires of the truck. Preliminary investigations confirm that there was no contact between the truck and the bicycle before the fall.
Authorities have found no evidence of impairment or reckless behavior by the tow truck driver at the time of the incident. The investigation is ongoing, and the community is hoping for a speedy recovery for the young victim.
