Police Forced to End High Speed Chase on Garden State Parkway

CRANFORD, NJ — Early Friday morning, the Cranford Police Department responded to a burglary report at a Sylvester Street home. At approximately 1:45 AM, officers arrived just as the homeowner’s BMW was seen leaving the property.

This prompted a high-speed chase that ended on the Garden State Parkway due to dangerously high speeds.

In accordance with the New Jersey Attorney General’s directive on police pursuits, police terminated their chase.

The burglars had broken into the home through a first-floor window using a crowbar and stole the vehicle using the key fob found inside. Union County police departments have reported a rise in BMW thefts.

Residents are urged to secure their vehicles by removing key fobs and ensuring their security systems are active.
