Fatal Fire in Jersey City High-Rise
JERSEY CITY, NJ—A man was killed in a fire in a high-rise residential building in Jersey City early Thursday morning, according to local authorities. Firefighters were called to the scene at 270 Marvin Blvd. at 4:51 AM, where they encountered smoke on the 12th floor of the 21-story building.
“At about 4:50 a.m., the Jersey City Fire Department was notified of a fire in a high-rise residential building located at 270 Marin Boulevard. Emergency responders found smoke coming from a unit on the twelfth floor. An unresponsive male – later identified as Ramon Abello, 61, of Jersey City – was located inside a unit and transported to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead just after 6:45 a.m,” officials reported.
Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione, spokeswoman for the mayor’s office, reported that the firefighters extracted one man from the apartment where the blaze started. The victim’s identity has not yet been released to the public. The fire was successfully contained to the single apartment, preventing any damage to adjacent units.
This comes days after a North Carolina man jumped to his death in a nearby hi-rise in Fort Lee.
