Brooklyn, NY – District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced today that Ramel Chapman, a 32-year-old man from Boerum Hill, Brooklyn, was sentenced to life in prison without parole for a crime spree in East Williamsburg in 2021. Chapman was found guilty of first- and second-degree murder, among other charges, for fatally shooting one man and injuring another during an armed robbery. The sentencing was carried out by Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Eugene Guarino after a jury trial earlier this year.
The incident took place on June 13, 2021, at 200 Morgan Avenue in East Williamsburg. Chapman targeted Sean Robinson, 33, from Stamford, Connecticut, and his 38-year-old friend. After demanding belongings from Robinson at gunpoint, Chapman shot him in the chest and took gold chains from him. He then turned to the second victim, pistol-whipped him, and stole from him as well. Chapman proceeded to rob a third victim near Stagg Street and Morgan Avenue and later looted items from The Anchored Inn before fleeing home in a Lyft.
Tragically, Sean Robinson, a father of three, succumbed to his injuries at Woodhull Medical Center. The bullet wound inflicted by Chapman caused severe internal damage. Following a thorough investigation, Chapman, who was already on parole, was apprehended on July 27, 2021. The prosecution was led by Senior Assistant District Attorneys Jhounelle Cunningham and Nallely Duarte, under the supervision of Homicide Bureau Chief Leila Rosini.
