Erick Perez-Ramirez, 40, of Jackson, was charged with two counts of Assault by Auto on Wednesday. The charges are in connection with an automobile crash that occurred in Toms River during the early morning hours of the same day.
On Wednesday, at approximately 4:45 a.m., Officers from the Toms River Township Police Department responded to the area of Bay Avenue and Ethan Court for a report of a serious motor vehicle crash. An initial investigation by responding Officers revealed that a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling eastbound on Bay Avenue when it failed to negotiate a right-hand turn in the roadway. The Silverado then left the roadway and struck a tree. The crash resulted in injuries to Viviana Arciniegas-Diaz, 33, and Maria Vega-Diaz, 33, who were both transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center and are currently in stable condition. William Rubiano, 31, and Perez-Ramirez were uninjured in the crash.
Responding Officers noted that Perez-Ramirez seemed to be intoxicated at the scene of the crash. Subsequently, he was charged with Driving Under the Influence and put under arrest. Perez-Ramirez was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River for a blood draw, the results of which are pending.
He was then moved to the Ocean County Jail awaiting a detention hearing.
