Somerset County NJ – A 19-year-old Skillman resident disregarded a red light and was struck by a school bus in Montgomery on Friday afternoon, the authorities reported. The incident occurred at 3 p.m. when a white Acura traveling west on Skillman Road failed to stop for the red light at the intersection of Route 601, according to the Montgomery police.

The Acura entered the intersection and was hit by a small school bus traveling south on Route 601. The collision caused the school bus to hit the traffic signal on the southwest corner. First responders assessed the six students on the bus and both drivers at the scene. Both vehicles suffered minor damage.

The teenage driver was given motor vehicle summonses for disregarding a traffic control device and careless driving and is scheduled to appear in Montgomery Municipal Court. The Somerset County Department of Transportation repaired the damaged traffic signal at the site.
