The Powerball jackpot had recently soared to an estimated $1.3 billion, prompting Joseph to buy a $10 quick-pick ticket at Walmart #1981 in California, MD.
After the drawing, it was announced that the jackpot was won in Oregon, but Maryland boasted three $50,000 third-tier winners. Joseph discovered their win after several checks of their ticket confirmed they had matched four white balls and the Powerball, plus an additional match on another line, totaling their winnings to $50,004.
