TOMS RIVER, NJ – In a recent court decision, Quamel Benton, a 35-year-old man from Farmingdale, has been ordered to remain in custody at the Burlington County Jail pending trial.
The ruling by Judge Wendel E. Daniels, J.S.C., comes in light of charges against Benton that include Attempted Kidnapping, Luring, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Criminal Sexual Contact, Eluding, Resisting Arrest, and Obstruction of Justice. These charges are related to incidents that transpired on March 21 and into the early hours of March 22, 2024, in Lakewood and Toms River.
Assistant Ocean County Prosecutor Victoria Veni handled the detention hearing. Additionally, Benton is facing separate charges, including Attempted Murder and Aggravated Assault, linked to earlier incidents in Willingboro Township, Burlington County, on the same day. This prior detention, ordered on March 28, 2024, also encompasses charges of Endangering an Injured Victim and five counts of Cruelty and Neglect of Children.
