Galloway Township Police Officer Recovers After Stabbing Attack

GALLOWAY, NJIn a distressing incident on April 7th, Galloway Township Police Officer Erik Tarnow was injured during a stabbing incident following a response to emergency calls.

At around 8:30 PM, officers were dispatched to a residence on the 300 block of Cresson Avenue due to several 911 hang-up calls.

Upon talking to the suspect’s mother outside the residence, Keith E. Kiminski, 30, of Galloway, emerged and attacked the officers, stabbing Officer Tarnow on the right side of his face with a folding pocket knife. A physical struggle ensued, during which Officer Tarnow and Officer Hunter Thomas subdued Kiminski until backup arrived.

Officer Tarnow was rushed to Atlanticare Regional Medical Center City Division for surgery on his facial injury and is currently in stable condition. Officer Thomas sustained a minor head injury but was released after treatment the same night.

Keith Kiminski faces charges including attempted murder, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and resisting arrest, and is currently detained at the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

Chief Richard D. Barber highlighted the event as a stark reminder of the daily risks faced by police officers, expressing gratitude for Officer Tarnow’s ongoing recovery and the broad support from various assisting agencies and the community. The Galloway Township Police Department extended thanks to everyone involved in the response and care following the incident, emphasizing the collective support from local law enforcement, medical staff, and the community.
