Murrieta Police to Find New Suspect Photo Disguise After Lego Request

MURRIETA, CA — The Murrieta Police Department announced it will seek alternative methods for concealing suspects’ identities in social media posts following a request from Lego. The department had utilized Lego minifig heads among other characters to obscure faces in line with California’s new law against sharing photos of non-violent crime suspects.

For years, the Murrieta Police Department employed creative means such as emoji and cartoon character images to ensure privacy and legal compliance when posting suspect photos online. This practice aimed at maintaining transparency with the community while respecting legal protections.

Lt. Jeremy Durrant revealed that the department ceased using Lego imagery after the company requested respect for its intellectual property rights. The department is now looking for new, engaging ways to share its content with social media followers without infringing on copyrights.
