Trump Pledges Pardons for January 6 'Hostages' if He Wins in November
Former U.S. President Donald Trump looks on at a campaign event in Waterford Township, Michigan

BEDMINSTER, NJ — In a controversial move, former President Donald Trump has vowed to pardon and release all individuals involved in the January 6 uprising at the U.S. Capitol Building. This declaration comes as the legal repercussions for over 1,230 individuals charged with various federal crimes during the riot continue to unfold.

In a message on his TruthSocial platform, Trump identified those incarcerated from the January 6th uprising as ‘hostages’, who were wrongfully imprisoned.

Twenty-nine arrests in connection with the incident have occurred in New Jersey.

The charges levied against the participants range from misdemeanors such as trespassing to severe felonies, including assaulting police officers and seditious conspiracy. According to the Associated Press database, approximately 730 individuals have entered guilty pleas, and about 170 have been convicted by either judge or jury trials.

Notably, only two defendants have been completely acquitted, with those decisions coming from bench trials. Out of the sentenced, nearly 750 people, almost two-thirds have served jail time, with sentences varying from brief intermittent confinement to a significant 22-year term for Enrique Tarrio, the former national chairman of the Proud Boys. Tarrio’s conviction for seditious conspiracy marks the harshest punishment to date, highlighting the grave nature of the offenses and the attempt to obstruct the presidential power transition.

There are 29 cases against residents of New Jersey according to the FBI:
