WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch has announced the arrest of Charles Edward Owens, 24, in connection to the Mother’s Day shooting that resulted in the death of 10-year-old Arianna Davis. Owens, who was already detained at D.C. Jail, has been charged with First Degree Murder while Armed, as of March 6.

The fatal incident occurred on the evening of May 14, 2023, in the 3700 block of Hayes Street, Northeast. Responding to reports of gunfire, police found evidence of a shooting. Arianna Davis was subsequently rushed to a local hospital with gunshot wounds by her family. Sadly, she succumbed to her injuries three days later.

Arianna was a passenger in a car with her family when she was hit by a stray bullet. The arrest of Owens follows the apprehension of two 19-year-old men from Southeast, D.C., both previously charged with First-Degree Murder while Armed.
