Middletown Police Assist in Search for Suspect Following Bensalem Police Ramming

Middletown Township, PA – The Middletown Township Police Department responded to a call from Bucks County Radio on February 28, 2024, involving a suspect who attempted to evade Bensalem police and subsequently rammed a police unit.

The incident began when Joseph Elovens, driving a white Mercedes SUV, attempted to flee from a police detail in Bensalem, striking a police vehicle in the process. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the collision. Elovens continued to flee northbound on Route 1 with a flat tire until the car became disabled and was abandoned near Highland Avenue.

Elovens is believed to have fled into a nearby wooded area south of the abandoned vehicle. Bensalem Police requested assistance from Middletown police in establishing a perimeter to facilitate a search conducted by two Bensalem K-9 units. The search extended to the area of Comley Road, based on confirmed sightings of Elovens in the woods and an encounter with an ATV operator who reported an attempted theft of his vehicle by the suspect.

Bensalem police called off the search at approximately 5:40 pm, and the suspect’s vehicle was towed to Bensalem Police Headquarters for further investigation.
