Washington, D.C. – The D.C. Metro Police Department successfully recovered a stolen vehicle and arrested a 19-year-old male suspect in the Southern District, following an alert from their License Plate Reader (LPR) system. On Feb. 25, at approximately 2:14 p.m., members of the Metro Mobile Unit were conducting patrols when their LPR indicated a stolen vehicle nearby.
Detectives quickly mobilized to canvass the area, spotting a vehicle that matched the LPR alert. The pursuit of the vehicle culminated in the 500 block of Washburn Avenue, where the suspect exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. The quick response of the officers led to the arrest of the 19-year-old male without further incident.
Following the arrest, the suspect was transported to the Central Booking Intake Facility and was charged accordingly. The recovery of the stolen vehicle marks another success for the D.C. Metro Police Department’s use of technology in crime prevention and enforcement.
