Langley Park, MD – A fifth suspect has been taken into custody by the Prince George’s County Police Department in relation to the heart-wrenching murder of a toddler in Langley Park, marking a significant development in the case.
The latest individual apprehended, 25-year-old Nilson Granados-Trejo, who reportedly has no fixed address, is now facing charges of first and second-degree murder. This arrest adds to the efforts of the Homicide Unit which has been working tirelessly since the incident occurred.
The tragedy unfolded on February 8, 2024, when a detective in the vicinity of the 1400 block of Kanawha Street heard gunshots. Upon investigation, the officer found two-year-old Jeremy Poou-Caceres critically injured from a gunshot wound. Despite prompt medical attention, Jeremy was declared deceased shortly after arriving at the hospital. The child’s mother, who was also shot during the incident, sustained injuries that were not life-threatening.
In the days following the murder, the police successfully identified and arrested four other individuals believed to be connected to the incident. Among the arrested are two teenagers, a 15-year-old from Takoma Park and a 16-year-old from Hyattsville, both charged as adults. Additionally, 33-year-old Israel Fuentes, Jr., and 28-year-old Johnny Alejandro Turcios, both from Lewisdale, have been taken into custody. The initial investigation suggests that the shooting resulted from an exchange of gunfire between two groups of males, tragically involving the victims who were not the intended targets.
Granados-Trejo is currently being held in the Department of Corrections without the possibility of bond, as the community and the Prince George’s County Police Department continue to grapple with the fallout from this senseless act of violence.
