Howell, NJ – A Bayville resident was arrested by Howell police officers on Saturday after confronting another man with a machete over an unpaid car repair bill.

The incident occurred at the Collingwood Auction flea market around 9 a.m. when the 39-year-old suspect, armed with a machete, sought to confront a 40-year-old Neptune resident about money owed for car repairs. Bystanders at the scene intervened, preventing the disagreement from turning physical or the weapon from being used. The suspect fled the scene before the arrival of law enforcement, without obtaining any payment.

Authorities were able to quickly identify and locate the suspect a few hours later in Eatontown, where he was detained. He faces several charges, including possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, and making terroristic threats.
