BARNEGAT, NJ – Chief Keith Germain of the Barnegat Police Department announced his retirement at the recent township committee meeting, marking the end of a distinguished 30-year career.

On Tuesday, Feb. 6, Chief Germain shared his retirement plans, effective March 13, highlighting the successful transition plan for the department’s leadership. Germain, 50, expressed gratitude for his three-decade tenure with the department, emphasizing his belief in making way for a new generation of leadership. He credited his career and the opportunities it provided as the foundation for his family’s well-being.

Captain Jason D. Carroll is set to succeed Germain. A dedicated Barnegat resident, Carroll has been lauded by Germain for his exemplary leadership qualities, commitment to the community, and personal integrity as both a law enforcement officer and a family man. Chief Germain’s career with the Barnegat Police Department began in 1994. He has since served in various capacities, including establishing the department’s narcotics and SWAT units, and leading the agency to state accreditation. Germain’s tenure as chief since February 2018 has been marked by initiatives to reduce crime and enhance community policing, underscoring his commitment to the safety and well-being of the Barnegat community.
