Annapolis, MD – Annapolis police officers were dispatched to the 1900 block of McGuckian Street following a report of potential animal abuse and domestic assault on February 18 at 9:48 PM.
The complainant informed the officers that her boyfriend, who had been tasked with watching their dog while she was out of town, reported the dog had died two days before her return. A subsequent argument led to the boyfriend allegedly striking the victim in the back of the head.
Although the victim did not sustain injuries requiring medical attention, the boyfriend fled the scene prior to police arrival.
Anne Arundel County Animal Control was called to the scene to collect the remains of the dog for a necropsy to determine the cause of death. The boyfriend, who later returned to the scene, was taken into protective custody after he sent text messages indicating he might harm himself.
Charges were filed against the boyfriend for the assault and were granted. Additional charges related to the harm caused to the dog are pending, awaiting the results of the necropsy conducted by animal control.
