Washington, DC – Ryan Parker, a 24-year-old resident of Washington, D.C., has been sentenced to 12 years in prison following a daylight shooting incident in March 2023. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela A. Smith.

Parker pleaded guilty to aggravated assault while armed and carrying a pistol without a license on August 8, 2023, in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. Judge Erik Christian delivered the sentence, which includes 10 years for the aggravated assault charge and an additional two years for carrying a pistol without a license, with the sentences to be served consecutively.

The shooting took place outside of Malcolm’s Liquors on Minnesota Avenue NE, where Parker fired 14 shots at the victim, hitting him twice following an argument over a cigarette.

The victim suffered injuries to his hand and leg as a result of the gunfire. Parker’s admission during his plea hearing highlighted the trivial nature of the disagreement that escalated into a violent altercation, leading to his lengthy imprisonment.
