Pittsburgh, PA – The Allegheny County Police Department’s Narcotics, Vice, and Intelligence Unit made significant inroads into drug trafficking within Pittsburgh’s East Liberty neighborhood, culminating in two arrests and the seizure of a large quantity of drugs.

The operation targeted 32-year-old Dontez Peoples, who was wanted on a warrant from a January incident. On February 13, detectives spotted Peoples leaving an apartment on Larimer Avenue and entering a vehicle with 30-year-old Tyla Jones. When approached by detectives, Peoples fled on foot but was quickly apprehended following a short chase.

A subsequent search of the apartment, backed by a warrant, led to the discovery of over 41 bricks of heroin/fentanyl, more than 28 grams of crack cocaine, THC wax, a loaded handgun, and ammunition. Alarmingly, the contraband was found within easy reach of two juveniles residing in the apartment, raising serious child endangerment concerns.

Both Peoples and Jones are facing charges including endangering the welfare of a child and possession with intent to deliver. Jones is pending preliminary arraignment, while Peoples was arraigned on February 14 and released on nonmonetary bail.
