Pittsburgh, PA – Allegheny County Police have charged a man following the discovery of a firearm at Pittsburgh International Airport’s main security checkpoint.
On February 15, at 4:33 PM, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers detected a .40 caliber handgun in a passenger’s backpack at Pittsburgh International Airport’s security checkpoint. The Allegheny County Police were immediately notified of the find.
The passenger was identified as 35-year-old Matthew Curry from New Alexandria. Police found that Curry did not have a valid concealed carry permit and charged him with one felony count of carrying a firearm without a license. Curry was arrested and taken to Allegheny County Jail to await preliminary arraignment, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation has been informed of the incident.
Passengers found with firearms at airport security checkpoints may be subject to federal civil fines by the Transportation Security Administration, which can reach up to $10,000 for first-time offenders and up to $13,910 for repeat offenders.
