GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ – The Gloucester Township Police Traffic Safety Unit is raising awareness about a serious safety concern involving drivers failing to stop for school buses with activated red lights.

Motorists are reminded that it is against state law to pass or approach a school bus with flashing red lights. Drivers must stop at least 25 feet away from the bus on two-lane roads, multi-lane highways separated only by lines, or privately maintained roads to ensure the safety of disembarking students.

To enhance student safety, Gloucester Township Police Patrol and School Resource Officers are conducting periodic and random follow-ups of school buses during their routes to and from school. This initiative aims to deter distracted driving and prevent potential accidents, providing an additional layer of security for students traveling by bus.
