Fatal Shooting in DC Leads to Arrest of Two Young Men

WASHINGTON D.C. – In a significant breakthrough in a homicide case, the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch has announced the arrest of two individuals in connection with a fatal shooting in Northwest, DC. The incident, which claimed the life of a man, occurred in the early hours of Sunday, November 19th.

At around 3:08 a.m., officers from the Third District were dispatched to the 2100 block of 8th Street, Northwest, following a report of an unconscious person in a parking garage. Upon their arrival, they discovered an adult male with a gunshot wound. Tragically, the victim, later identified as 24-year-old Anwar Wingate of Forestville, MD, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The breakthrough in the case came on Wednesday, when members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, acting on DC Superior Court arrest warrants, apprehended the suspects. The arrested individuals, 20-year-old Jayvon Thomas from Hyattsville, MD, and 19-year-old Lavar Hunter from District Heights, MD, were subsequently transported to the Homicide Branch. Both have been charged with First Degree Murder while Armed (Felony Murder).
