NEWARK, NJ – Newark Police are actively searching for two suspects involved in an assault and robbery that occurred on January 21, 2024. The incident took place at approximately 5:45 a.m. in the 400 block of N. 12th Street, near Abington Avenue.
According to police reports, the suspects, both described as African American males, emerged from a white SUV, believed to be an Audi, and pursued the victim who was walking towards his car. The victim attempted to escape but fell, at which point the suspects assaulted him, kicking and punching him on the ground. They robbed the victim of $200 before fleeing the scene. The SUV, driven by a third individual, was last seen heading westbound on Abington Avenue.
The first suspect is described as being about 5’5″ tall with a slim build. He was wearing a dark-colored jacket and a face mask at the time of the incident. The second suspect, also with a slim build, was dressed in dark-colored clothing and wore a face mask.
Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé is calling on anyone with information about the suspects or the vehicle involved to contact the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). The Newark Police Department assures that all tips received through the Crime Stopper line are confidential and could potentially lead to a reward.
