FREEHOLD, NJ — Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced today that Carl A. Richards, 38, of Marlboro, has been charged with first-degree Aggravated Manslaughter related to a homicide on New Year’s Day.
The incident occurred in the early hours of January 1st. Marlboro Township Police Department responded to an urgent medical request at a residence on Texas Road in the Morganville section of Marlboro Township. The victim, George L. Mott III, 64, was found unresponsive with significant trauma to his head, face, and neck. Mott was transported to Old Bridge Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased at 1:49 a.m.
The investigation, conducted by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office – Major Crimes Bureau and the Marlboro Township Police Department, revealed that the deadly assault by Richards followed a verbal dispute. Both Mott and Richards were residents of the same house.
Richards is detained at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution (MCCI) and scheduled for a first appearance in Monmouth County Superior Court today.
