MONROEVILLE, PA — County Police have charged 32-year-old Jamal Brooks in the recent shooting of a Monroeville police officer.
The incident began with an armed robbery report at 9:13 pm on January 3 in the 4100 block of William Penn Highway. A Monroeville Police Sergeant, while patrolling east on Monroeville Boulevard near Stonecliffe Drive at 9:17 pm, located an individual matching the suspect’s description. Upon the officer’s approach, the suspect, later identified as Brooks, fired multiple rounds at the police vehicle, injuring the officer. The officer, struck multiple times, was transported to a hospital and is in stable condition.
At 9:18 pm, other responding officers found Brooks in a parking lot on Stonecliffe Drive and apprehended him without further incident.
The Allegheny County Police Department’s Homicide Unit was requested to assist by the Monroeville Police Department. During the investigation, detectives recovered two firearms and 16 spent shell casings at the scene. Brooks faces charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault, and assault of a law enforcement officer. The initial armed robbery case is still under active investigation.
