Firearm Seized in Cranford Traffic Stop, Two Arrested

CRANFORD, NJ – A routine traffic stop led to the arrest of two individuals on firearm and other charges in Cranford, NJ. During the stop, police discovered a loaded firearm in the vehicle.

On December 27, at 11:34 PM, Officer Antonio Bellomo initiated a stop for a black 2016 Dodge on North Avenue at the entrance ramp to the Garden State Parkway Northbound, citing equipment and moving violations. Officer Liam Duffy provided backup.

The investigation led to the discovery of a loaded .380 Lorcin L380 handgun with a hollow point bullet. Marion Carson, 22, from Irvington, NJ, a passenger in the vehicle, was arrested for possessing the firearm.

Carson faces charges of 2nd Degree Possession of a Firearm and 4th Degree Possession of Hollow Nose Ammunition. He was detained at the Union County Jail, awaiting a detention hearing.

The driver, Gabriel Olaniyi, 21, from Newark, NJ, was also arrested on an unrelated outstanding criminal warrant from Newark. Olaniyi received multiple motor vehicle summonses, including driving while suspended and careless driving.
