LOUISA, VA — A Powerball ticket purchased at Louisa Mini Mart, located at 305 West Main Street in Louisa, has become worth $2 million following Wednesday night’s drawing. The community is abuzz with the question: Who holds the winning ticket?
The December 20 Powerball drawing featured the numbers 27, 35, 41, 56, 60, with the Powerball number 16. The ticket from Louisa matched all but the Powerball number. This would typically result in a $1 million win, but the ticket holder’s decision to opt for the Power Play for an additional $1 doubled their prize to $2 million.
This particular ticket was one of only five nationwide to match five numbers in the recent drawing, and it is the sole one in Virginia to do so. The jackpot, which was at an estimated $572 million, remains unclaimed as no ticket matched all six numbers. Consequently, the jackpot is projected to increase to approximately $620 million for the next drawing on Saturday.
The winner has a 180-day period from the drawing date to claim their prize. The Virginia Lottery recommends that the winner sign the back of the ticket immediately to establish ownership. When ready, the winner should contact the Virginia Lottery to claim their prize.
