HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, NJ – The Township of Hamilton Police Department, in coordination with the Wilmington (DE) Police, successfully apprehended a wanted fugitive on Thursday, December 21, at around 5:27 PM. The arrest followed a high-risk motor vehicle stop at 5201 Harding Highway and an extensive search in the area.
The suspect, identified as Philip Harris, a 24-year-old male from Delaware, initially fled on foot into a wooded area behind Wawa after police stopped his vehicle near Route 40 and Cantillon Blvd. Harris was wanted on an outstanding warrant from Wilmington, Delaware, for six counts of attempted murder and related offenses.
An extensive search was launched immediately after Harris fled. The police received a tip about a suspicious male matching Harris’ description near the Wawa located at 300-Route 50 in Mays Landing. Officers responded promptly and located Harris on Parsons Row, where he was apprehended without incident.
Harris is now facing charges of resisting arrest and being a fugitive from justice. He has been lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility, awaiting extradition to Wilmington, Delaware. The successful capture of Harris is a testament to the diligent and coordinated efforts of the Township of Hamilton Police and their counterparts in Wilmington.
