Utica Police Arrest Man for Second Loaded Firearm Possession in 2023

UTICA, NY – A routine vehicle stop by the Utica Police Department’s Crime Prevention Unit led to the arrest of a 20-year-old man on firearms charges. The incident occurred on the evening of December 18th, 2023, on the 300 block of James Street.

Asad Mohamed of Utica was stopped for violations of New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law. During the stop, officers discovered that Mohamed did not have a valid New York State license and exhibited suspicious behavior.

Upon further investigation, officers conducted a frisk and found a loaded 9mm handgun tucked in Mohamed’s waistband. He was subsequently handcuffed and transported to the Utica Police Department.

It was later revealed that this incident marked Mohamed’s second arrest for loaded firearm possession in 2023. The Utica Police Department continues to prioritize community safety and enforce local and state laws diligently.
