BROOKLYN, NY – Rennie Patterson, a 22-year-old resident of Crown Heights, Brooklyn, has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for the second-degree murder of John Barnes, 32.
Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Eugene Guarino issued the sentence following Patterson’s conviction, which also included two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
According to Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez, Patterson executed Barnes by shooting him in the head. The incident, which occurred on December 16, 2017, around 1:40 a.m., was captured on video surveillance.
The footage showed Patterson and a friend walking from a nearby building to the scene at 1339 Saint John’s Place, where Patterson confronted and fatally shot Barnes.
Patterson was apprehended on July 11, 2018.
