DELAWARE – The Delaware State Police are emphasizing the necessity of vehicle security due to an increasing trend in motor vehicle thefts. The department highlights the criticality of not falling into a false sense of security, as neglecting simple precautions can lead to significant stress and loss.

Many reported thefts involve vehicles left running and unattended, a habit that significantly heightens the risk of theft. These incidents frequently occur at workplaces, gas stations, air pumps, shopping centers, and residences. The State Police advise that taking a few extra moments to turn off the vehicle, remove the key, and lock it can substantially reduce the likelihood of theft.

This advisory aims to raise awareness among vehicle owners and encourage practices that can help deter the growing trend of vehicle thefts in the region.
