Robbery Suspect Sought by Newark Police

NEWARK, NJ – The Newark Department of Public Safety is seeking assistance from the public to identify a suspect involved in a theft at the Eye Contact Vision Center. The incident occurred on November 17, 2023, around 10:15 a.m.

Surveillance footage from the vision center, located in the 200 block of Ferry Street, shows a Hispanic male suspect stealing a pair of Gucci and Maui Jim sunglasses. The suspect was seen removing the sunglasses from the display shelf, concealing them in his pocket, and then exiting the store. He was dressed in grey sweatpants, a grey sweatshirt, and a black vest jacket at the time of the theft.

Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé has called for public cooperation in identifying the suspect. The Newark Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line, 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477), is available for anyone with information regarding the suspect’s identity. The department emphasizes that all tips provided to the Crime Stopper line remain confidential and could potentially lead to a reward.
