CLAYMONT, DE – Delaware State Police have apprehended two juveniles following a high-speed pursuit involving a stolen vehicle in Claymont on the night of November 20, 2023.
The incident began around 9:48 p.m. when a state trooper on patrol noticed a tan 2008 Volvo XC9, bearing Pennsylvania registration, traveling at a high rate of speed on Darley Road near the I-95 overpass. Upon running a computer check, the trooper discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen from Troop 1 on November 19, 2023. When the trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the Volvo failed to comply and a pursuit ensued. The vehicle, driven at unsafe speeds, eventually entered a private parking lot. The driver, a 16-year-old male from Lewes, Delaware, and the front passenger, a 15-year-old male from Claymont, Delaware, then exited the vehicle and fled on foot, ignoring verbal commands to stop. Following a brief chase, both juveniles were taken into custody without further incident. It was noted that the stolen Volvo had collided with an unoccupied parked van in the lot, as the driver had not secured the vehicle before fleeing.
The 16-year-old driver faces several charges, including Receiving Stolen Property Over $1,500 (Felony), Disregarding a Police Officer Signal (Felony), Resisting Arrest, Criminal Mischief, and Multiple Traffic Violations.
