HOWELL, NJ — The Howell Township Police Department issued a public safety announcement regarding an uptick in motor vehicle thefts, notably of luxury cars, in the state.
Thieves are entering homes to obtain car keys and fobs, often tracking targeted vehicles with “Air-Tag” style devices from places such as shopping and dining areas.
Residents are urged to secure all doors leading to their garages and homes and to be mindful of key and fob storage locations. The reported thefts predominantly occur in the early morning, between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m.
The department also warned of multiple organized theft rings active during night hours, stealing vehicles and catalytic converters. The public is encouraged to contact 911 if they notice any suspicious activity.
