NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The North Avenue bridge over the New England Thruway (I-95) will undergo demolition work starting Monday, Oct. 30, according to an announcement from the New York State Thruway Authority. The work will require lane closures and traffic stops on both I-95 and North Avenue and is expected to take about three weeks to complete.
The project will result in two lanes in each direction on I-95 being closed at night to facilitate work activities. North Avenue Bridge will be reduced to one-way alternating traffic overnight. Multiple traffic stoppages will also be implemented on both I-95 and North Avenue to remove overhead steel.
The New Rochelle Police Department has issued a travel advisory, encouraging motorists to seek alternative routes around the work zone. The project’s timeline outlines completion within three weeks, during which residents and commuters should anticipate traffic disruptions.
Municipal authorities are coordinating efforts to ensure the project proceeds with minimal impact on local residents. While the exact hours of work have not been disclosed, the focus will be on overnight operations to mitigate daytime traffic congestion.
