CUMBERLAND, MD – Authorities responded to a stabbing incident on Pennsylvania Avenue, leading to the arrest of a local man on numerous charges including attempted murder and drug possession.
On the morning of Saturday, October 28, Cumberland Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to a residence following reports of a possible stabbing victim. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim with a stab wound and provided initial aid. The fire department personnel took over the care upon their arrival.
The victim identified the assailant, who was later found in a nearby residence on Race Street, where another assault had reportedly occurred. Both victims were transported to UPMC Western Maryland for medical attention.
The suspect, identified as 27-year-old David Darius Daughton of Frostburg, was located and detained. Further investigation led to Daughton’s arrest, whereupon a search revealed possession of suspected crack cocaine and Controlled Dangerous Substances (CDS) paraphernalia.
Post arrest, possible evidence relating to the assault was recovered. Daughton was processed at Central Booking before being seen by a District Court Commissioner. He was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center without bond, facing charges of Attempted 1st and 2nd Degree Murder, 1st and 2nd Degree Assault, Reckless Endangerment, Disorderly Conduct, and drug-related charges.
