EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy announced that MetLife Stadium has an even chance of hosting the 2026 Men’s World Cup final. The East Rutherford stadium competes with AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The decision rests with FIFA.
Murphy spoke on the matter while discussing with the Meadowlands Chamber of Commerce. He stated that the chances stand at “50-50” compared to Dallas, Texas’ prospect.
The governor also highlighted that MetLife Stadium is slated to host at least eight games during the World Cup event. He confidently said one of those games will be a semifinal match, citing historical precedent. In 1994, New Jersey hosted a World Cup semifinal.
Governor Murphy emphasized the significant impact this could have, likening the sequence of eight games to eight “Super Bowls” over six weeks.
FIFA will make the final decision on the venue for the 2026 World Cup final.
