Clayton Officer Injured, Suspect Found Dead After Shooting

CLAYTON, OH – A Clayton police officer was injured during a shooting that occurred around 1:45 p.m. Thursday. Chief Matt Hamlin of the Clayton Police Department stated that the incident began when officers arrived at a location near North Main Street and Hacker Road to serve an arrest warrant. At the residence, a man opened fire, striking the officer in the arm.

The wounded officer, whose identity has not been disclosed, was subsequently transported to Miami Valley Hospital and is currently in stable condition post-surgery.

Following the shooting, the assailant barricaded himself inside the house. Despite efforts from multiple SWAT teams to negotiate, the situation ended with the suspect being found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, as later reported by a Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson.

Chief Hamlin noted that the suspect was not a resident of the house but was acquainted with its inhabitants – a family which includes two children. The family members were able to evacuate the premises without harm. Further details about the weapon used and the broader circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be released.

Residents in the vicinity experienced disruptions, with Northmont City Schools rerouting some buses due to roadblocks in the affected area.
