ERIE COUNTY, NY – A jury found Javair D. Walker, 21, of Buffalo, guilty of second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

The verdict came after a four-day trial, and the jury deliberated for less than an hour before reaching their decision.

The incident dates back to August 16, 2021, at around 8:30 pm. Walker allegedly fired a shot from an illegal firearm into a crowd engaged in a fight near Page Street and Lawn Avenue in Buffalo.

A 17-year-old girl was struck by a bullet in her chest and was declared dead upon arrival at ECMC.

Subsequently, the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Walker in Cleveland, Ohio. He was then extradited to Western New York in September 2022 for the trial.

Walker is now awaiting his sentence, scheduled for November 30 at 10:00 a.m. before Erie County Court Judge Sheila A. DiTullio. He could face a maximum of 25 years to life imprisonment and is being held without bail. The Buffalo Police Department and the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force received commendation for their contributions to the investigation.
